Stays in Bhilar

India's first Village of Books, and the densest cluster of 3- and 4-bedroom pool villas on the plateau. Two kilometres from Mapro Garden.

Bhilar became a destination twice over: first as a book village, with reading rooms and open libraries tucked into village houses, and second as the strawberry belt, where the orchards behind the houses are productive from December through April. The two identities sit oddly together and both are genuine.

Practically, Bhilar is the best-value villa cluster on the plateau. You are 2 km from Mapro Garden, 10 minutes from Panchgani market and 20 from Mahabaleshwar, and the villas here are newer than the Panchgani bungalows. The trade-off is that the village roads narrow quickly — check whether the last stretch is paved before you book a low-clearance car.

Bhilar questions

When is strawberry season in Bhilar?

The harvest runs roughly December to April, peaking in January and February. Farm visits with plucking usually cost ₹300 to ₹600 per person and are best on weekday mornings.

Is the road to Bhilar villas suitable for a sedan?

The main Bhilar road is fine. The last 200 to 500 metres to some villas is not. Every listing on this site states whether the approach is paved for low-clearance cars.

Can we book a Bhilar villa for a 15-person group?

Yes — several 3- and 4-bedroom villas here take 12 to 16 guests with mattresses. Use the group capacity collection to see which ones, and check the per-person split on each listing before enquiring.
