Panchgani sits at roughly 1,300 metres on the eastern lip of the Sahyadri escarpment, which is why the town gets the sunrise and Mahabaleshwar gets the rain. The result is a short, walkable market road, a cluster of heritage bungalows from the 1930s and 40s, and a property market that has stayed stubbornly low-rise.
Most travellers from Pune treat it as a 2.5-hour escape up the Pasarani Ghat; most from Mumbai pair it with Mahabaleshwar on a three or four-night circuit. The stays below are the ones we have walked through ourselves — including the approach road, the pool depth, and whether the kitchen can actually run pure veg for a full house.
