Destinations
Twenty-five kilometres past Mahabaleshwar, on the Shivsagar backwaters. Kayaking, Vasota Fort, and tented camps priced per person.
Tapola is where the Koyna river was dammed into Shivsagar lake, and the local tourism industry grew up around that shoreline. It is called Mini Kashmir for the scale of the water rather than any real resemblance, but the mornings are genuinely exceptional.
Almost all inventory here is agro-tourism and tented camping priced per person with meals included, not per room. Boating to Vasota Fort and kayaking are arranged on site. The last stretch of road is unpaved in places — we tell you which camps a sedan can reach and which need an SUV.

25 km by road, roughly 50 minutes. There is no public transport to the camps themselves; you need your own vehicle or a hired taxi.
Only if they are comfortable with basic accommodation and uneven ground. Most camps have no AC and shared or semi-attached bathrooms. For a comfortable multi-generation stay, Bhilar or Panchgani is a better fit.
